Upgrading is advised because this version also fixes a potential security issue.

When we thought our day could not get worse - after unpublishing MageBridge based on wrong reasons - it just got worse: All our Yireo extensions got unpublished. It seems somebody in the JED has the pick on Yireo, or simply does not under the workings of open source. Why got these extensions unpublished?

Our MageBridge extension has just been unpublished from the JED (Joomla! Extensions Directory). Why? Well, the reason is Uses encryption and restricts usage by license key. Obviously, that's reason enough to unpublish any extension. But does this apply to MageBridge? No, and we've had this argument already 2 times before.

A new version of our WebP integration for Joomla! is now available - version 0.0.3 adds a new JavaScript detection, which makes it possible to cache pages across different browsers (that do or do not support WebP images). Plus it adds an extra check for file modification times, so that WebP files are automatically updated once the original JPEGs or PNGs are modified.

While most webdevelopers focus on their webapplications to optimize things (speed, usability, etcetera), optimizing things specifically in or for the browser is often overlooked. What about the new possibilities of WebP? Or creating browser-extensions to aid development? Here is what we've been working on.

Last Wednesday we noticed extra activity on the Yireo site, and we went throught the logs quickly - only to find that various rootshells were added in a tucked-away folder in our Joomla! site. Our site was hacked. Luckily we could simply remove the hack-files and the exploit, and be done with it.

Joomla! 2.5 has integrated the Finder-extension into its core, adding a new Smart Search functionality. Already the Joomla! documentation includes a fine tutorial for writing a Smart Search plugin, however it assumes integration with the Joomla! database. With MageBridge, we wrote a SmartSearch plugin that integrates with a remote source (Magento), and we thought it would be a good idea to share this with you all.

We have been so busy implementing new features in MageBridge, and supporting our customers building smooth webshops, that - as always with techies - marketing was way behind. We just updated our showcase-page of MageBridge shops - ditching some old entries, and adding some new. And there are some conclusions to make while running through the list as well.

(Almost) every website has images, and (almost) all images are of the format PNG, JPG and GIF - formats that have existed already many years, but have rarely been updated. Because a lot of the bandwidth of the modern web is taken up by images, it is logical to see research in the direction of reducing the sizes of images dramatically. Google has introduced such a new format - WebP - and we are happy to code along by offering a free Magento extension for this new WebP format.

About a week ago, we released ByAttribute version 1.0.0 for Magento - the so-called stable version that everybody was waiting for such a long time. The first feature of this stable version is that nothing has become more stable than it already was - it's just a version-change. The second feature is that this new release brings widget-support. At last, something easier than hard-code XML-coding ...
