I thought long and hard about what to write for this Birthday blog post. I started to look back at the early days, back in September and October 2005, to see if the aims and ideas of the co-founders have come to fruition. Then I realised that we had no grand aims of world domination just a desire to work together with a wider community to build something special.

So instead of keep repeating myself I'm writing them here and I can just point people at the blog and talk about something more interesting instead when I meet you. This is MY list and I'm sure people will have other some other ideas so please add them in the comments.

Whilst checking a site today I came across some code that triggered my scanner alert scripts. I was unable to read the code as it was obfuscated/encrypted/encoded - select whichever you think is appropriate.

In the last weeks, I've taken a step back from my involvement into the Joomla project and took a good look at what we achieved. And let me say: Joomla has quite a lot of great and talented developers and basically all the work that has been done by them was good and deserves to be noted. But I also saw, that we have huge problems. I'm not telling a secret when I'm saying that our releases are not really at a fast pace and we also didn't keep all our promises all the time... But what is the...

Spend any time on the joomla forums and you will see "help my web site has been hacked". The first response is always the same "please read the security checklist" In numerous places you will see   "Use proper permissions on files and directories. They should be should never be 777"   But with JomSocial the reverse is true!

Congratulations to Spain, winners of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in the competition's history. After a game that at times more resembled unarmed combat than "the beautiful game" Spain were the eventual winners. Although Dutch Striker Arjen Robben will have induced a few heart attacks towards the end.

I had been saving several Brazilian sites for the later stages of the World Cup but somehow they managed to get knocked out much earlier than I expected. Whoever said that this World Cup was going to be predictable? As there was no game today I'm taking the opportunity to post one of those Brazilian web sites.

We all know that two of the greatest Joomla extension developers are in Greece. There can hardly be a Joomla web site developer that has not heard of Akeeba Backup or K2 from JoomlaWorks. But let's not forget that one half of the Community Builder team are also in Athens. Maybe there is something in the water of the "Home of Democracy" that makes such great Joomla developers or perhaps it's the quality of the education.

As a child I would be glued to my radio every sunday night to hear the music single Top 40 countdown. As an adult in the multimedia cd-rom business I would scramble to open the envelope for the monthly software sales charts.

When I think of the Netherlands I think of clogs, tulips, windmills and some of the best Joomla!Day events I have ever attended. The Netherlands is also of course famous for its canals and the fact that about 1/5 of the country has been recovered from the sea or about 7,000 km2.

As you hopefully know by now this series of blog posts aims to feature high profile Joomla web sites from a country that won a match in the FIFA World Cup. There wasn't a game today so I've selected a web site from England, who did win once, but haven't featured yet. Sadly the England team underperformed so I've selected this site with my tongue firmly in my cheek as it's not exactly as "high profile" as other sites that I've included.

For most people in England when they think of visiting Spain they only travel to the Mediterranean coastal resorts. The only thing Spanish they will ever see is tourist only Flamenco dance whilst they eat a "full english breakfast" or "fish and chips", all washed down with large quantities of English lager. They miss out on the cultural and historical sites especially the city of Toledo located in the center of the country which has perhaps one of the richest histories of all.

When Brazil announced their team for the World Cup it was a surprise to many that Ronaldinho, a former World and European Footballer of the Year, was not selected. But I guess having seen the performances to date of the Brazilian team even a player of his pedagree isn't needed. (If England only had a player with a fraction of his skill and talent)

Wow what a sporting day for Germany. First Sebastian Vettel won the F1 European Grand prix on the street circuit of Valencia and then the National football team destroyed England 4 - 1. So for today's entry in the Joomla World Cup I decided to feature a German automative industry web site.

A few weeks ago I wrote about Ghana and that the Official web site of the Ghanaian Government uses Joomla. That's made it quite hard to find a good entry for the Joomla World Cup to represent Ghana.

Côte d’Ivoire is a West African country often mistakenly still called The Ivory Coast. Formerly part of the Federation of French West Africa the country achieved Independence in 1960. Creating a widespread communications network in a country like Côte d’Ivoire is a challenge.

As Japan had a notable victory today in the FIFA World Cup it is this Nation's turn to feature on the blog. However I had a great deal of difficulty in finding many Joomla powered web sites in Japan. Perhaps this guest blog by Norito Hanji Yoshida will help to explain why. This blog post was first published at http://www.joomlajp.org

When I started this series of blog posts the aim was to showcase web sites from countries that win a match in the FIFA World Cup. Whilst it is just a bit of fun I have tried to select sites based on their profile in the country and not necessarily the sites features or design. Today the USA won a football match so I set out to find a site that for me really typified America. Rightly or wrongly one of the first things that I think of when I think of the USA is "corporate greed"

What could be a more appropriate Joomla! powered web site for the World Cup than that of the City of Johannesburg. Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa and one of the 40 largest metropolitan areas in the world. On the 11th July Jo'burg will host the 2010 FIFA World Cup final at the Soccer City stadium.
